Dance
From 4 years old to adults
Whether it's for fitness or to fulfil a dream we feel that we have a dance style that will cover your need. We also offer classes for children under 4 years: please visit First Steps Preschool Music and Movement and Dance Studio for more information about our Junior School
Jazz
There are many different types of Jazz dance. Our Jazz classes consist of technical works such as isolations combinations, kicks, points, plie & releve, basic positions and development of flexibility, balance, co-ordination and control. This leads onto jumps, leaps, turns and complex progressions increasing coordination and flexibility. ATOD syllabus is incorporated into all class structures to enable all children to develop great technique to become stronger dancers.
Tap
Tap commences with the most basic elements. Rhythm and timing are the backbone of Tap dancing and are taught from the very beginning. These combine toe and heel beats, springs, step ball change and combinations which slowly lead onto more complex rhythms, timing and variations in speed, incorporating single and double time-steps, wings, grab-offs, turning steps and complex progression of increased difficulty. ATOD syllabus is incorporated into all class structures to enable all children to develop great technique to become stronger dancers.
Funk
Funk is a blend of today’s high energy “street style” movement. These classes dance to “popular dance/pop music”, introducing boys and girls to the fundamentals of movement, timing, strength and development of co-ordination and rhythm. For all those budding stars that want to be in a video clip, this is the class for you.
Hip Hop
There is more to this style that meets the eye, incredible athletics mixed with intuitive rhythm control culminating in a advanced dance form that represents a challenge to avant-garde performers.
Classical Ballet
Development of basic balletic exercise for feet, legs, hands and arm extensions, both at the barre and in the centre. This leads onto skills requiring focus on co-ordination, strength and control in all five ballet positions. ATOD Ballet syllabus is taught to include barre work, centre floor work also including adagio, allegro and progressions across the floor. Classical Ballet is the “backbone of a dancer” and is strongly recommended for all students to undertake to strengthen their dance technique. Our older children work through cecchitti ballet syllabus work and can go onto prepointe and pointe classes.
Theatrical Classes
These classes incorporate both jazz and tap dance for the younger students. Classes run for 55 minutes, 1 1/2hrs or 2 hrs depending on which level you’re at and include ATOD syllabus. This class is a great way to introduce and combine the dance styles.
Musical Theatre Classes Blurb
In the musical theatre class, our focus will be divided into three elements, acting, singing, and dance and learning how we can combine these art forms to tell stories. It will provide the students with a platform to develop their skills in all three areas. This class will cover the basics of Musical Theatre as well as providing a broad knowledge of the art form covering a vast range of styles and shows. It will enable your child to have the confidence in discovering where their skills lie and how to reach their full potential.
Cheerleading
Cheerleading incorporates dance styles and technique with acrobatic skills. Students will learn to use Pom Poms, cheer and chant skills. Cheerleading requires a great deal of energy, stamina and a good deal of strength and flexibility.
Acrobatics
Acrobatics training teaches flexibility, balance, strength, muscle control, discipline and concentration as well as spatial awareness. The high degree of discipline and concentration required for acrobatics carries over to many aspects of a student’s life, including academics and other athletic performance. Acrobatics provides the foundations for further gymnastic skills but most importantly it shares in the benefits of working within a team environment
Acrobatic:
• Enhances balance, co-ordination and agility
• Develops posture and confident body movement, including the ability to land safely
• Challenges the mind and body to reach new goals
• Builds strength and flexibility for challenge in life
• Is the perfect team based sport for people of all ages and abilities
